there's a lot to see at the end of the road
Somewhere in the first few days of the new year my annual dose of cabin fever coincided with a stunningly clear sunny day. Even though I was supposed to be working, and Doug had things to do in the garden, we decided to play hookey and drive to both ends of this "island" we are living on. So, 30 km to the north we hit Lund, where we had coffee and treats at Nancy's bakery, and squinted at the distant shimmer of Savary Island. Turning south again, we turned up the stereo and flew down all 64km of Highway 101 to Saltery Bay, where we hiked around the point and sat on a rock looking across the water to the lower Sunshine Coast (above). By the time the ferry came around the corner from Saltery we were chilled, but it was hard to turn away from the mountains going pink with the last of the sun. Later we had a 50-yard dinner with friends in Wildwood and warmed up over red wine and pork roast. Kind of a perfect day.
